Winslow Family Reunion, Punxsutawney, PA circa. 1911
Winslow family reunion held in Punxsutawney, PA, in 1911. The people pictured were the descendants of Kenelm Winslow of Marshfield, MA. Carpenter and Elizabeth Colburn Winslow and five of their nine sons left Pittston, ME, and settled in Punxsutawney, PA (now known as the Weather Capital of the World) in 1818. They were some of the region’s earliest settlers. Many of their descendants today reside in Jefferson and Elk Counties, PA. The photo was provided by George Bowers, a Winslow descendant, who has since passed. It was George’s custom to have Winslows who visited his Punxsutawney home identify people in the photo. George would assign them identifying numbers that are visible on the photo. The reunion tradition continued annually for more than 100 years. In recent years it has been held every other year in Elk County
Below is the list in George Bowers handwriting. Those with stars were his direct family. The reunion was held at the home of R. C. Winslow. Later my sister and I identified our dad, who was 5, along with our grandmother and great grandparents. However, they are not numbered on the photo George allowed me to copy. Kathy
